Mercedes Benz A class vs BMW 2 series 2021. Also, other 'better' cars in same price point.

 The battle between the two German car brands has recent become even more intense as Mercedes Benz just revealed their direct competition to BMW's 2 series which is obviously the A-class.

But the heart of matter is if you want to buy one of these entry level products of these two brands, which is the one in which you can put your money on? 

In this blog we are going to put both cars head to head so that you can decide which among these German is best for you .

Engine options

Taking the debate under hoods, the BMW 2 series gets two 2000 cc 4 cylinders engines both diesel (220d)  as well as twin turbo charger petrol (220i) engine producing 187 bhp and 189 bhp respectively.  In 'competition', merc too offers the market both petrol and diesel engines of 2000 cc 4 cylinders producing 160 bhp and 147 bhp respectively. BMW has an upper hand in the engine spec comparison on paper however, there is a surprise in a segment offering by mercedes and its none other than A class with a AMG batch. The option A class AMG freaking kicks off the 2 series from 'competition' by producing 536 bhp with the same 2 litre 4 cylinder but turbo charged engine. The choosing petrol AMG engine over the 220i M petrol engine of the bimmer will cost you 9 lakhs more which in our point of view is just worth as the AMG A class is just a segment above in terms of power figures.

Features

The feature list of these D segment sedans looks very much alike. As the competition is tough, none of the two brands chose to compensate in terms of features. Both cars have features in bulk amount like panoramic sunroof, driver as well as co driver seat ventilation, voice commands, electric tailgate, MBux and I Drive respectively, 10 speaker surround sound system and much more in the goodies.

Verdict

The verdict of this e-comparision is quite obvious, If you are a raging auto enthusiast who priortise performance over the modern gizmos Then, the A-35 AMG is just made for you (though it will lighten your pocket). On the other side however, if you are a true 'BIMMER' and have an emotion with BMW then the 2 series or M2 also seals the deal in your court with its VFM proposition. Features are almost same in both of these car so if you are a techy person who demands up to date gizmos, then either cars is ergonomically suitable for you.

Keeping performance aside and thinking ergonomically, many other segment above luxury cars falls in the same price bracket as the performance variants of these 2 series and A Class.

Some of the possible and more logical alternative of M2 and A class are:-

BMW 3 series (330i sport)

The base model of the elder sibling of 2 series is just 1 lac costlier than the 2 series providing you a bigger car, engine, more space and advanced features. The 3 series even have greater power figures as compared to 2 series and is cheaper than AMG 35 by 16 lacs!!

Mercedes Benz GLA 2021:-

It is obvious truth that in India, SUVs are more practical genre of cars than sedans thus, another deal killer for the A class and 2 series is the a new GLA 2021 though it gets lesser amount of features but its just ergonomically better than those cars in terms of engine, space, ground clearance, visibility etc. Price if top model of GLA falls same as M2 and 9 lakhs cheaper than AMG 35.
